B-MAX GP Executive Committee Official Competition Regulations

Foreword

In Basic-MAX GP (hereinafter referred to as B-MAX GP), competition regulations have been established to enjoy Mini 4WD racing through Mini 4WDs released by Tamiya Corporation. These regulations aim to make the competition fair for participants worldwide, regardless of age or gender, by ensuring equal conditions for racing cars, racecourses, and competition procedures (methods and manners).

The essence of B-MAX GP lies in the competition on elaborately designed racecourses within the framework of the basic unmodified regulations. All racers, under the spirit of fair play, use their intelligence and techniques to challenge each other on equal terms. We hope that Mini 4WD racers engage in honorable battles, fostering mutual exchange, and aspiring to improve Mini 4WD technology through the races.

1. Introduction

The B-MAX GP Finals and Qualifying Tournaments (hereinafter collectively referred to as the “Event”) are organized and managed by the B-MAX GP Executive Committee and the organizing team. The rules for the Event are defined in this document, including relevant guidelines and notices (hereinafter referred to as the “Regulations”). The organizing team has the authority to conduct the Event in accordance with these Regulations. Additionally, they hold the authority to make judgments in cases where unforeseen circumstances arise or when applying these Regulations would result in a significant lack of fairness.

2. Eligibility

To ensure the continued organization of B-MAX GP events, participants are required to meet the following eligibility criteria.

(1)   Agree to this agreement.
(2)   Register for participation through the methods specified by the organizers of each event and qualifying event and obtain eligibility.
(3)  Be able to communicate smoothly with event staff and other participants.
(4)  Understand and adhere to the event procedures specified separately from this regulation.
(5)  In case the B-MAX GP executive committee deems it necessary during the finals and preliminary events, participants must provide personal information such as name, age, address, and allow photography and interviews by the B-MAX GP executive committee and various media companies.
(6)  Participants, including their family members, must not have any ties or affiliations with anti-social forces, including but not limited to organized crime groups (yakuza), gang members, quasi-members of organized crime groups, companies associated with organized crime, political racketeers, social movement extortionists, political extortionists, or any similar entities.

1. Racing Machine

1.1 Types of Racing Machine

Adhere to the Tamiya regulations.

1.2 Specifications of Racing Machine

Adhere to the following provisions in addition to the Tamiya regulations.

1.2.1 Body

The body used must comply with the following regulations.
< Permitted Items >
Only plastic bodies are allowed
Both front and rear must be securely fixed with Tamiya body catch parts.
Any combinations of body and chassis are allowed.
Wing parts are not required to be attached.

< Prohibited Items >
Splitting of the body.
The use of Polycarbonate and PET bodies.

1.3 Dimensions of Racing Machine

Adhere to the following provisions in addition to the Tamiya regulations.

1.3.1 Tires and Wheels

The tires and wheels used must conform to the following regulations.
< Permitted Items >
Only combinations of tires and wheels of the same size are allowed.

< Prohibited Items >
Combining different sizes of tires and wheels, such as mounting low-profile tires on large-diameter wheels.

1.4 Motor

Adhere to the Tamiya regulations.

1.5 Batteries

Adhere to the following provisions in addition to the Tamiya regulations.

<Prohibited Items>
Batteries must be installed as specified by the chassis.
(*Using the chassis in reverse is prohibited.)”

1.6 Modifications

Adhere to the following provisions in addition to the Tamiya regulations.

1.6.1 Body

Body modifications must adhere to the following regulations.

< Permitted Items >
Painting a body
Sticker application
Different combinations of bodies and body parts (wings, etc.)
Attachment of body and body parts (wings, etc.)
Body modification is allowed only when there is interference with the chassis, plate, or mass damper, and it must stay within 3mm of the interfering area. (*To follow the discretion of race organizers and officials).
Cutting/removal of canopy parts for animal placement.
Please fix the animal with double-sided tape or adhesive.
Disqualification will occur if the animal falls off during the race.
Customization of the animal’s appearance.
Body Cutouts and Applying mesh. (Please perform trimming within the range where the original shape of the body is still recognizable.)

< Prohibited Items >
The body detaching during a race.
*If the body detaches during a race, it will result in disqualification.
Body parts (such as wings) detaching during a race.
*If the body parts detaches during a race, it will result in disqualification.
Excessive trimming that makes it impossible to recognize the original shape of the body.
Repairing trimmed areas of the body with adhesives or similar methods.

1.6.2 Chassis

Chassis modifications must adhere to the following regulations.

< Permitted Items >
Applying stickers.
Expanding the standard screw holes by 2mm.
Drilling through non-penetrated standard screw holes.
Countersinking processing of screw holes.
*Countersinking processing is allowed for all screw holes.

< Prohibited Items >
Adding new screw holes.
Cutting or trimming the chassis.

1.6.3 Mass Damper

Mass Damper modifications must adhere to the following regulations.

< Permitted Items >
Coloring of the mass dampers
Joining of multiple mass dampers placed on the same screw using multi-tape
Mass dampers are limited to vertical motion controlled by fixed screws.
Suspension placement below the plate
(*Disqualification will occur if the suspending mass damper under a plate falls off.)

< Prohibited Items >
Alteration of mass damper shape
Enlargement of mass damper holes
If the holes are enlarged due to wear from long-term use and the maximum distance between them exceeds 5mm, it will be considered as a modification.
Placement of ball-link mass damper arms spanning the axle
Disqualification will occur if the ball-link mass damper detaches during the race.

1.6.4 Tires and Wheels

Modifications of tires and wheels must adhere to the following regulations.

< Permitted Items >
Penetration of the wheel’s axle hole
※ Any shaft protruding from the wheel should be protected with multi-tape, rubber tubing, or similar materials.
Bonding of tires and wheels (using double-sided tape, adhesive, etc.)
Combining tires and wheels of the same size

< Prohibited Items >
Tire modifications
※ Modifications are considered when there is a change in diameter of 1mm or more due to long-term use.
※ Example: If the diameter of a medium-diameter low-height tire is 25mm or less due to wear from long-term use.
Combining tires and wheels of different sizes
※ Example: Fitting small-diameter tires into medium-diameter low-height wheels, etc.

1.6.5 Roller

Roller modifications must adhere to the following regulations.

< Permitted Items >
Roller count and size must comply with Tamiya regulations.
Coloring of rollers.
Replacement of roller bearings. 

< Prohibited Items >
Roller modification, including changes to the outer dimensions, cutting or drilling holes in flat surfaces, or expanding bearing holes.
Use of rollers that have become excessively sharp-edged due to wear during races.
※ Excessive wear resulting in a diameter change of more than ‘1mm’ due to long-term use is considered a modification.
※ Example: If the diameter of the 9mm section of an 8-9mm two-stage aluminum roller is less than 8mm, it is considered a modification.

1.6.6 Plate

Plate modifications must adhere to the following regulations.

< Permitted Items >
Countersunk screws processing of existing holes.
Tapering of edges.
Strengthening through the penetration of instant adhesive.
Adhesion of multiple plates.

< Prohibited Items >
Any modifications other than countersunk screws processing and edge tapering.
All plates must be securely fastened.
※ Slide movement using grade-up parts’ slide dampers is allowed.

1.6.7 Other Parts

Modifications of the other parts must adhere to the following regulations.

< Permitted Items >
Tamiya grade-up parts brakes.
Trimming to achieve the required size for brake sponges is allowed.
Cutting of Mini 4WD multi-tape.
Cutting of Mini 4WD rubber pipes.

< Prohibited Items >
Part modification.
Except when explicitly permitted individually.
Modification of metal parts such as screws, shafts, and rollers.
Use of combinations not specified between chassis and A parts.
Example: Combining a Super 1 chassis battery holder with a Super 2 chassis, etc.
Using leftover pieces from runners, polycarbonate bodies, etc., for setup.
Use of parts modified from Mini 4WD catchers.
Unmounted battery holders.
Use of brakes other than Tamiya grade-up parts brakes.
Modification due to brake by the application of heat.
This is prohibited considering that some stores may not allow the use of certain firearms.
Use of parts obtained by disassembling motors.
Unprotected protruding areas such as screws/shafts with rubber tubing or poles.
Gear modification.

1.6.8 Gimmicks

The use of swing-type damping gimmicks involving heavy objects like mass dampers (chouchin, hikuo, norio, Tohoku damper, catcher damper, guillotine damper, Doraemon chouchin, etc.) is prohibited. However, the use of grade-up parts, such as the ball-link mass damper, is allowed. Please configure it according to the B-MAX GP Regulations ‘[1]-6-③.’

2. Race Course

Races are to be held in accordance with official Tamiya regulations.

For B-MAX GP races, racing on a 3-lane circuit comprised of sections from the Japan Cup Junior Circuit (Item 69506), Junior Circuit Slope Section (Item 69570), and the Japan Cup Jr. Circuit Bank Approach 20 (Item 69571) is recommended.

3. Race on Certified Courses

Races are to be held in accordance with official Tamiya regulations.

4. Tech Inspection

The use of the Mini 4WD Check Box (Items 95280/95548) and the Mini 4WD Clearance Gauge (Item 95613) is recommended for vehicle tech inspection to ensure compliance with official Tamiya and B-MAX GP regulations.

5. Disqualification

Adhere to the official Tamiya regulations

Regarding the inspection of competitive vehicles, it is necessary to comply with the ‘Basic-MAX GP Competition Rules [1] Racing Machine.

8. How to Participate in Race Events

Entry process is to be managed by event organisers. Those wishing to participate in an event are asked to please contact the local event organisers for more information.
