The belt fitting is based on an original from the 2nd half of the 1st century AD, found in Serbia, near Tekija, which formed part of the Roman province of Pannonia. Originally it was worn on the belt of a Roman legionary: the cingulum or balteus. Crafted from brass with a layer of tin applied over it, the fitting
